Pregnancy is a miracle yet can be draining at the same time. Our bodies are changing, we feel sick, and we feel great depending on the day. But we tend to forget how we will cope after of baby has arrived. It is easy to forget about yourself and focus everything on others including your new baby. Obviously, your baby is number one but try to establish a routine from the get-go! This will not only benefit you but your baby as well as others around you.
First, celebrate small victories! No matter how ready you think you are for the arrival of your baby, how you think it will go and how it really goes are two very different stories. It may have been a bit of a struggle for the baby to latch in the hospital at first but now they are eating like a champ- celebrate that! You may have had a c-section and are now you find yourself walking more quickly than you did right after birth-celebrate that! Big or small acknowledge the wins. Recognizing these victories can help you feel like a powerful force of nature even when you are feeling like your whole world has been rocked and you can’t tell day from night lately.
Secondly, take care of yourself! Just putting the baby in their bouncer and taking a shower can give you a boost of energy and make you feel like you again! Have your groceries delivered and pass the baby baton to Dad so you can prep some healthy snacks for yourself for the week. Even taking a break to meditate or take a walk. It’s easy to lose yourself after having a baby, but as women, wives, and mothers everyone tends to look to us for direction. Use this superpower to your advantage and ask for help or 30 minutes to feel like you again. The ship can sail without us for a brief moment and I promise your family with thank you for keeping the boat afloat!
