Baby is finally here- hooray!! A few days have passed since the new member of your family has arrived so it’s time to start preparing for your newborn photography session. You want to plan your session between 6-10 days after your baby’s birth. Taking advantage of this time frame will make it easier to capture your baby in that adorable, scrunchy, sleeping poses.
Now, what should you bring to your newborn session? Bring everything for changing and feeding the baby. If using formula, I recommend over-estimating what you think you will use. If the baby takes a pacifier bring that as well as often your photographer will use that to soothe the baby through different poses. If your baby does not take a pacifier, no worries it is not a must. For you parents, we recommend a casual outfit and a dressier one for dads if you ladies are taking advantage of the photographer’s gown collection. Wearing solid colors and avoiding patterns is key as we want you and your new baby to be the stars of the portraits! Dark blues, blacks, grays, and lighter neutrals work best. If siblings will be joining the session, we recommend the same color pallet. Don’t forget to bring snacks and toys for siblings as three-hour sessions can be a lot for them.
We want the baby to be as sleepy as possible during the session. Try to give the baby a warm bath the morning of your session and keep them awake as much as possible. Also, feed the baby right before the session so they are good and full. A full, sleepy baby equals a happy baby model! Throughout the session, take the milk top off and snuggle breaks to keep the baby as comfortable as possible.
