I knew there would be changes to my body during pregnancy but one of the weirdest changes I was not expecting was foot growth?!
I had no idea that during pregnancy your feet actually grow! As your belly grows and you gain weight it puts a lot more pressure on your feet causing them to lengthen. Those dang pregnancy hormones get ya again as the ligaments in your feet relax causing your bones to spread and widen. So I guess technically they are not growing but what’s even crazier is my feet never shrank back after we had our son!
About 10 years too late to help myself, I felt the need to pass on helpful tips to prevent your feet from “growing” during pregnancy.
- My favorite tip of all and one I still do today is – Drink lots of water! Drinking water helps your body get rid of excess fluids. Saying bye to those excess fluids = less puffiness.
- Don’t stand for long periods of time. When you’re sitting keep your feet elevated so fluids don’t accumulate in them.
- Try to wear comfortable shoes as much as possible. It can still be totally fashionable to wear flats or a low heel that can provide good arch support.
It is still crazy to me all the things that take place in our bodies when you are pregnant. But regardless of the good, bad and ugly, I wouldn’t trade being pregnant for the world. It’s beyond unbelievable that we can grow these tiny humans in us, so embrace it all ladies!
