You have reached the six-month mark with your new little one. Up until now, you have been your baby’s toy. You may have already introduced the activity mat which is helping the baby become a little more independent. Below are a few of our favorite toys we love for babies to help them start exploring their new world a little more!
- Light-up and musical toys: These are both great as the flashing lights will capture your baby’s attention. Studies have shown that exposing your baby to musical toys perform better when listening and reading in the future.
- Toys made out of silver such as play keys or rattles are wonderful for your baby as bacteria is not able to survive on them. Also, gnawing on either of these will help promote oral development as your baby gets older when learning to speak. Whereas sucking on say pacifier can negatively impact their speech, as it impacts their resting tongue posture.
- Wooden Toys: such as blocks are great because they are simple and force a baby to learn cause and effect. With a block, they can bang them together resulting in a sound. Or chew on it and result in their gums feeling better from teeth trying to grow in. Just make sure they are stained and not painted. Also as a bonus, as they grow, teaching them that wooden toys are more eco-friendly than plastic. Double win!
All in all, when it comes to buying toys for your baby, think simply! Bright colors, different materials to engage their senses, and toys you can easily clean. Helping your baby explore their world will not only give your arms a break but it helps them become more independent and curious as to the world around them!
